A Book is a Gift that Keeps Giving

Fill their minds with great stories when you stuff their stockings with books. Does not require batteries and you don’t need a Ph.D. in engineering to put it together. A good book can last a lifetime and sometimes can even change a life.

Think of all the books that gave you pleasure growing up and pass the delight on. Here are a few of my fun picks, from fiction to non-fiction, funny to serious and tackling a wide variety of topics from coping to bullying.

This is my absolute favorite of the Little Miss History books. Author Barbara Ann Mojica gives a detailed account of all the essential facts associated with the North Pole, that include the diversity of the people and animals as well as the different nationalities living there. While I knew it was the most northern part of the globe, I didn’t think it sits on a floating ice sheet, or that sunrise and sunset come once a year. Chock-filled with exciting facts, there are tons of gateways for discussions from all the brave people who explored to discovering fun facts about Santa Claus. Highly recommended.

Adorable book about an escaped chinchilla. The cute illustration accompanies the story of a chinchilla on the lam who makes a mess wherever he goes. Fletch and Rachael are charged with retrieving him and end up cleaning up the disasters that follow in his wake. They return home to find him exhausted in his cage and there is a charming ending. Entertaining and delightful, this is a great read to share with your little ones.
