We were brothers.

Blood, sweat, tears as we gushed from our mother’s womb,

Our howls signaling our territory. It was ours.

We were brothers.

Laughing tumbles of fists and kicks with smiles that gleamed like razor blades and arms interlinked like chains. We were unbroken then.

We were brothers.

The first blush of a lover’s kiss stolen away in the beat of a heart — swift as wings even as something throbbed and hardened between us. A wall unseen, but felt all the same.

We were brothers.

Voices deep and strong, cut like ice and crumbled like dust between our fingers adorned with golden rings and filled, in time, with soft pliable things.

We were brothers.

Memories lost in the wind of time, as it moves like a river, swift and unyielding until we forget that feelings felt aren’t ever really forgotten.

We were brothers.

Desolation and despair lay on the ground

Broken swords like honor and shields like glory splattered like drops of paint covering tiny hands and lighting up innocent eyes in matching faces.

We were brothers.

Loneliness a deep companion as the street known as Memory winds away,

taking with it the particles of Us.

We were brothers.
