Dissertation Proposal

My dissertation question is How does film & TV present politics through pop-culture, it took me several drafts to get a solid idea of what I wanted to do for my dissertation.

The reason I have chosen politics and pop culture is because from a young age I have been interested in politics, specifically american politics as my interest peaked during the 2016 presidential election campaign, I got so interested in how each campaign went about things. Like how Clinton was constantly stuck with email scandal started by opposition Donald Trump. Then how Sanders was hosted his campaign.

I got so involved in how it was the politics game was being played. I have also loved film and TV; my favourite TV shows have been Scandal, Homeland, House of Cards and Designated Survivor. This shows that I do love political shows and the link between TV and politics.

In my dissertation I intend to discover and delve into how real-life politics and pop-culture are linked. How pop-culture shows or films play a big part in teaching politics and how much they reference to real-world politics. For example House of Cards references planned parenthood in season 2 which suggests that political programs do include real-world issues to put in the show to heighten the shows intensity.
