NFL Limits personnel in Locker rooms on NFL game days

The National Football League has mandated that only fully vaccinated personnel will only have access to locker rooms during game day with a maximum amount of 50 people per locker room. The personnel includes coaches, athletic trainers, equipment staffers, one general manager, one team security representative, three club communications media workers and one clubhouse support staffer.

The purpose of this piece is to continue to be as forward as they can with the precautions that they are taking to ensure the safety of their players and the personnel. Players were not required to be fully vaccinated but the NFL has stated that more than 90% of the league is vaccinated.

There are special circumstances to the mandate. Non-club-affiliated media will not be permitted in the locker room. However, in the event that a player needs medical attention or if a club elected to conduct a drug and steroid specimen collections on game day, a medical professional or specimen collector may access the players’ locker room without being included in the maximum of 50 individuals with locker room access provided they are fully vaccinated.

It is important to note that the NFL is not the first pro organization to limit locker room access. Major League Baseball began their 2021 season with video conferencing. Most teams are continuing to host pre- and post game manager availabilities via video conference, and reporters still are not allowed back into clubhouses.

The various media used to tell this story was mostly text with a video about all the changes the NFL has had this off-season from suggesting not mandating that all players get vaccinated to now limiting the amount of traffic in locker rooms to 50 people.

The strengths to this story is how they put it together. They did a great job of giving you the new mandate that the NFL has issued while giving you a timeline of everything that came before this mandate. I thought it was great how they peppered in how 90% of the league is vaccinated because I did not know that before reading the article.

They also explained how many people were allowed in the locker rooms and exactly how many certain personnel were allowed to be in their. The weakness was the video. They had a short video explaining it but it wasn’t very detailed. It did however, show conversations from other issues surrounding COVID-19 with the NFL.

If I were telling this story I would have wrote it the same way. The main thing that I would change is maybe adding some tweets from current players or former players. I also would have tried to interview a current or former player to find out what they thought of this particular mandate. Overall, I thought this story was told very well in text. It flowed together great in my opinion. If I were to change anything it would be the video. I would have tried to interview maybe a current or former player. Maybe a non-player personnel to find out what they thought about the new mandate. Or gathered a collection of tweets from current players in the NFL.
