Worn out memories

Every word you emit
It unravels and re-spins
It knits and knots itself
Slowly clothing me
It builds in layers
Textural and toned
Always more comforting
Than continuing alone
I see the sound transform
As it’s uttered from your mouth
The waves stretch out and wobble
Then start to overlap
Into fabric
Tightly woven
Soft and cozy warm
Your words keep me
They hold me
Until I don’t need them anymore
Until one day
like a threadbare sweater
I finally realize they have been outgrown
I keep them hanging on a fancy hanger
In the back of my closet
Where I can always go and put them back on
Take a look in the mirror
Anytime I need reminding
Of the precious words
I held so close to my heart
