Zone 6 Defeats a Rival in Intense Close Game

As the sun set and the crowd sat on the benches as the lights of the football field came on, players prepared for the epic flag football game against their rival.

The most intense game of intramural flag football was on Sept. 19 featuring Zone 6 and rival Slime Mentality.

Although it was not a sold-out crowd, many people attended the game since it was rumored to be an electrifying event — one that students should not miss.

In the previous matchup between the two teams, there were a lot of aggressive words and physical actions being used towards one another.

So, the referees set conditions for the game, stating, “There will be no foul language being used tonight. If any of us hear anything, then that player will be DQ (disqualification) and the team who’s player got disqualified will be penalized with loss of yards.”

Touchdown by Zone 6 wide receiver.

When the game began, Slime Mentality threw an interception on the opening drive. After Zone 6 caught the interception on their first drive, they moved the football down the field resulting in a touchdown by wide receiver Devin Bernard.

After the touchdown, the quarterback yelled, “This is too easy! We’re going to keep doing this all night!” This led their rival Slime Mentality to get amped up and to try to make the score even.

Although Slime Mentality was moving the football down the field, to the crowd it seemed like the game would stay even at 7 to 7.But on this drive, the result was the same as the last; Slime Mentality was once again in the red zone but wound up throwing an interception. This gave Zone 6 their chance to score once again.

The game began to be more interesting when both teams were even and players started to say, “The game ain’t over till the fat lady sings!” It was clear that under no circumstances would either team give up, even if the odds were not in their favor.

Despite the comeback from Slime Mentality, Zone 6 came out victorious, winning the game 35 to 21. With that being said, Zone 6 remains undefeated and will most likely become the №1 seed when it is time for the playoffs.

After the game and the players began to regroup with their teams, wide receiver/safety Devin Bernard was clearly happy to have beaten his rival not once, but twice.

The game between the two rivals was a good and highly anticipated match, not just for both teams, but for those who were out to support.

Stay tuned for the upcoming intramural flag football games throughout the semester, or better yet, attend a game.
